To learm more about the Civil Air Patrol, please visit our national website for an introduction to the organization. Here you will find information, links, and photos which should provide you with information regarding the Civil Air Patrol, our mission, and our people. Hopefully you’ll decide to join the ranks of the Official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, the Civil Air Patrol! A message from Capt. Jennifer Kauffman, Commander of the Jefferson County Squadron: I would like to extend to you a personal invitation to become involved in serving your community, state and country by joining the ranks of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The CAP is a volunteer organization bonded together by a common desire to serve our fellow man. We encourage personal growth through training and practical application of Search & Rescue (SAR) skills. These skills are taken to task during actual SAR missions, since the CAP’s teams perform 85 percent of inland search-and-rescue missions for the Air Force's Air Rescue Coordination Center. We also assist the County Sheriffs with missing persons searches throughout the state and stand ready to assist the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as needed for disaster relief / emergency services missions. The CAP can offer you numerous personal challenges and also a lot of fun. Various ways in which you can find a home within the CAP include:
- If you’re under 18 years of age you can become a Cadet by joining a Cadet or Composite (Cadet & Senior) Squadron, or as a CAP Officer you can also assist with Cadet programs,
- In the Ground Teams - the folks working from the ground; driving, hiking, traveling on horseback, rappelling, whatever it takes to find an objective,
- As a member of a Flight Crew, you fly in aircraft searching for objectives and assisting Ground Crews in locating objectives via radio communications. You can be a Scanner, Observer, or a Pilot if you qualify,
- There are also administrative positions. The fact is that we can make use of whatever skills you may possess or desire to develop.
I sincerely hope that you find the information you’re looking for here at our home on the Internet. The Jefferson County Squadron, like the CAP as a whole, is a diverse group made up of people from all races, creeds, sexes and walks of life. We welcome you to stop by a monthly meeting to allow us to answer any questions that you may have! Also, please consider me a resource for information about our great organization and feel free to contact me personally with any questions you may have. My contact information is below.
