2017 COWG Encampment - Wednesday, May 17, 2017

May 17, 2017
2017 COWG Encampment

Cadets Attending Encampment – Comply with these instructions and pass the information along to
your parents – immediately! This is extremely important information.

Unit Commanders – Please ensure that cadets attending encampment and parents receive this
information.

Encampment Cadet and Senior Staff – Comply with these instructions as soon as possible.

Persons who fail to comply with these instructions will likely not be admitted to USAFA.
Encampment staff has neither the personnel nor time to assist persons with access to
USAFA on check-in day or graduation day. Please assist us in getting this information out
 to anyone needing access.

United States Air Force Academy Access Procedures for COWG Cadet Encampment

The location of the 2017 COWG Cadet Encampment is the United States Air Force Academy
(USAFA) Preparatory School. The Air Force controls the procedures for entering USAFA. The Air Force
may change these procedures at any time. Anyone entering the USAFA property must comply with
the procedures in effect at the time. The following procedures are in effect as of the date of this
document.
Persons with Department of Defense (DoD) ID cards or DD 20 ID cards have access to
USAFA by showing their ID card. This includes activity duty military personnel, dependents, and
retirees. These cardholders are aware if their cards allow them to serve as escorts for persons
traveling in a vehicle with them.

CAPID Cards are not DoD issued ID Cards.

With the exception of those with DoD ID cards and described above, all other persons, in the
categories listed below, who are entering USAFA to attend the encampment, drop off a cadet for
encampment, attend the graduation ceremony, or pick up a cadet must provide the requested
information.
This applies to
all occupants of any vehicle and not just to the driver.

·         Anyone, including CAP Members, eighteen (18) or older.

·         Anyone, including CAP Members, sixteen (16) or older who is driving a vehicle to encampment.

·         Those under sixteen (16) do not need to provide the information.

The Air Force establishes these procedures - NOT CAP. Failure to submit the required information
will result in denied access to USAFA!

At the time of entry, all persons entering USAFA must have, in their possession, the ID used when
submitting  information for the access list.

Cadets and parents are responsible for ensuring that all friends and guests attending graduation
register for access.

Required Entry Information:

·         Last Name, First Name (exactly as shown on ID used)

·         Date of Birth

·         Driver’s License Number and State of Issue, or

·         State Issued ID Card Number and State of Issue, or

·         Driver’s Permit Number and State of Issue, or

·         Passport Number and Country of Issue.

·         Additional requested contact information.

Submit this information no later than Sunday, 28 May 2017. The submission deadline is firm. No
extensions can be granted due to USAFA requirements.

At the end of this email, you will find a web link that will take you to the online web form used to collect
the required data. The link will direct you to some additional instructions. After careful review of those
instructions, use the link at the bottom of that instruction to go to the actual data entry form. This
information is stored on the CAP Colorado Wing server. Encampment will delete the information from
the server after preparation of the Entry Access List (EAL).

If in doubt, submit the form information!

Failure to complete this requirement will result in denied entry to USAFA!

>>>>> Submission Deadline is Sunday 28 May 2017 <<<<<

Use the following link to access the web form: USAFA Access Form Instructions

The just released encampment Arrival and Departure Instruction Document is published
on the encampment web site. Use the link below to access document directly:

Cadet Basic Encampment - Wednesday, March 8, 2017

March 8, 2017
COWG Encampment Cadet Basic Pre-Registration

Cadets and Parents

The online 2017 Colorado Wing Encampment PRE-REGISTRATION for Basic Cadets (first time
encampment attendees) is now open. This online form is
NOT the EncampmentApplication
Packet. The Application Packet for Basic Cadets will be available later in March 2017.

Encampment staff uses the online Basic Pre-Registration to collect contact data information for
encampment’s cadet and parent database and to determine the level of interest in encampment
attendance.

Cadets planning to attend COWG Encampment should complete the online Pre-Registration at
this time. If you are not certain if you will attend, complete the online Pre-Registration anyway.
Once the actual application process begins, later this month, applicants must complete the
Pre-Registration prior to submitting the actual application packet. With that in mind,
it is best to do it now!

Once again, this Pre-Registration IS NOT the actual encampment application for
basic cadets.
That will be submitted when it is available later this month. Look for email
announcements when the Basic Cadet Application Packet is available and the application
window opens.

Use the link, below, to access the online Basic Cadet Pre-Registration form. Please be patient after
clicking the link – the online form is very slow to open.

registration-2017/tabid/1090/Default.aspx

Encampments in other states

To all those who may be interested in attending an encampment in another state either 1st time or as staff.
I've provided a link to a list of other states encampments as well as the link to the Wyoming Encampment.

  • If you intend on attending another states encampment you need to begin the process early as the application
request must be approved by Wing and possibly region as well, and this can take some time.
    • Encampment is a pre-requisite to promote to officer or to attend NCSA's and most region or national activities.
  • If you would like to apply as staff, you would need to research that states encampment requirements and
find out when their application process is. Some states may have already started their process.
  • Spring / Summer 2017 Encampments
This link will take you to a list of other states and over sea's encampments. This is not a full list at this time, but
will likely be updated as states confirm their encampment dates.
  • Wyoming Encampment
Wyoming has not yet updated their site with 2017 information, however the dates for each encampment are
generally about the same every year.
  • Kansas Encampment - Winter
Kansas has a winter encampment that just passed, so their information will not be updated for awhile. But if you
can't go this summer or would prefer to go over winter break. Watch for their information. A lot of Colorado cadets
go to the Kansas Winter Encampment. Generally this encampment starts on or the day after Christmas and ends a
    few days after New Years.

If you have any questions or need help please feel free to speak to a senior member.

later. In addition, selections for some other staff positions may be made during this process. Those who interview
and are not selected for the Command positions may be offered other positions to include Cadet Safety Officer,
Cadet Standardization/Evaluation Officer, and possibly Cadet Squadron Commander.

The selection process for the remaining cadet staff position will likely be held in early April 2017.
Look for future email announcements.

 for Cadet Staff Selection.

Colorado CAP Foundation - Scholarships and Grants

Although COWG encampment and NCSAs are still over five months away it is not too early to explore opportunities
for financial assistance to help with encampment fees and fees for other activities.

The Colorado CAP Foundation makes financial assistance funds available in the way  of Grants/Scholarships. However,
you need to apply as soon as possible. The deadline for Colorado CAP Foundation Grants/Scholarships is 10 February.
The application must be received by the foundation before that date. Not only do you need to prepare the application
but also must have the application approved/signed by your unit commander before you can submit it.

Do not pass up this opportunity if you think you will be attending encampment and need financial assistance. Encampment
fees this year are expected to be approximately $225.00. Act now! Below, you will find a link to the CAP Foundation
Individual Grant Application and instruction letter:

Colorado CAP Foundation 2017 Individual Grant Form

*NOTE: Encampment is required to promote to an Officer or to attend any NCSAs.

If you have any questions please feel free to talk to a Senior Member regarding this process.
