Why does Cadet Programs affect you?

Cadet Programs is a premier youth leadership training program offered by Civil Air Patrol.  CAP was chartered by Congress like the Boy Scouts as a non-profit educational organization.  We fingerprint our adult members and have a Cadet Protection Program like the Boy Scouts to ensure that adults who work with youth are appropriate for that task.  But that is where the likeness to the Boy Scouts ends.  When we teach field training skills and go out into the woods, we go to save lives of people who are lost or in need or rescue.  This training is serious business.  To get youth to focus on helping others, we teach self-discipline using a voluntary structure based on the military structure with uniforms, rank, customs and courtesies.  This format attracts more serious-minded people who like rules and purpose.  The adults and youth in CAP excel in becoming leaders because they practice following leaders to achieve goals.  The Cadet Program helps youth, age 12 to 18, learn how to become a leader.  What other youth program offers that!
