COWG Encampment Slot Assignments and Wait List - 2019

Cadets:

Congratulations to the cadets listed below! You are awarded one of the 148 confirmed slots for basic cadets at the 2019 Colorado Wing Cadet Encampment.  Confirmation letters will be mailed to each confirmed cadet later this week.

The packing list for encampment is available on the COWG Encampment website.  Start acquiring the items on the packing list immediately. Required means REQUIRED, not optional.

Link to Packing List: https://coloradowingcap.org/Portals/0/Wing%20Services/Cadet%20Programs/Public/Packing%20List%20Cadets.pdf?ver=2019-04-25-145013-147

Later this month, encampment arrival instructions will be available. These instructions will include report time, reporting uniform, and maps to the encampment location. Read the instructions carefully and share the instructions with parents.

ENCAMPMENT SLOT WAIT LIST: Following the slot assignment list is a WAIT LIST. The 10 cadets on the wait list may be awarded confirmed slots if any cadets on the Primary List cancel or withdraw from encampment.

Cadets who wish to withdraw from encampment should send withdrawal requests to the encampment email address. Encampment.COWG@comcast.net . Any cadets cancelling or withdrawing on or before the NO REFUND DATE – Friday, 24 May 2019 will receive a refund of encampment fees. Cancellations or withdrawals after that date will not receive a refund. If primary slots become available due to cancellations or withdrawals, cadets on the wait list will be contacted and offered a confirmed slot.

There are 221 applications submitted for this year’s encampment. Unfortunately, only 148 slots are available. Any cadet who applied and is NOT on the PRIMARY SLOT ASSIGNMENT LIST or the WAIT LIST was not accepted for the 2019 COWG Encampment.

There are other encampments in Montana and in Idaho Wings in July and Wyoming Wing in August and a winter encampment in Kansas over the Christmas Holiday break. Obtain additional information about those encampments from the specific encampment website. Those cadets not accepted will soon receive a mail notification with information about refunds of encampment fees.

Many cadets who were not selected will likely have an opportunity to attend next year’s encampment. We hope to operate at full capacity of approximately 148 cadets next summer

2019 Colorado Wing "Lightning II" Encampment

Following COWG Encampment tradition, each year's Cadet Commander selects the “theme aircraft” for the encampment from current or historically significant U.S. Air Force aircraft. C/Capt Taylor Coffey has been selected as the 2019 Encampment Cadet Commander and has chosen the Lockheed-Martin F-35 "Lightning II" as this year's theme aircraft.

The F-35 "Lightning II" is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multi-role fighters. The fifth-generation combat aircraft is designed to perform ground-attack and air-superiority missions.

What's in the Documents Above?

Why are the documents in the box above so important?

AFMAN 36-2203 Drill & Ceremonies is the US Air Force Drill "Bible". Everything you ever wanted to know about drill is in the manual. If you want to become a real expert, this is where you need to look! BE PATIENT - This is a large file and will be a slow download.

Learn-to-Lead Cadet Drill Guide is the very, very abbreviated CAP version of the Air Force Drill & Ceremonies Manual. This is probably all you will need to study prior to encampment.

Preparing for Encamment - Parents Guide is a lot of useful information for parents about encampment. This is "must read" for parents of a Basic Cadet (first time attendee) that is going to encampment.

Basic Cadet Guide - Preparing for Encampment is a great document to help the basic cadet, who is a first time attendee, to prepare for encampment.

CAP Manual 39-1 CAP Uniform Manual is the complete reference to wearing the CAP uniforms. Everything that you will ever need to know about CAP uniforms is in this manual - if you can find it!

Grooming and Appearance in Uniform is information that is taken from CAPM 39-1 and provides a "one-stop-shopping" source that provides cadets (and parents) with all of that important information about what kind of jewelry you can and cannot wear with the uniform, CAP's policy toward "body piercing", male and female grooming standards for haircuts, hairstyles, (don't show up with green hair) and makeup, etc. This is an important document. It should be reviewed by cadet applicants and parents, before encampment.

Encampment Grooming Standards Policy is the 2015 Encampment policy regarding personal grooming standards (such as haircuts and hairstyles).

CAP Pamphlet 151 - Respect on Display is the source for learning about CAP/Military Customs and Courtesies. This is a "must read"  for new cadets. This is your source for learning who to salute, when to salute, how to salute, and other important military traditions, customs, and courtesies. Be sure to study this before encampment.
