Cadet Orientation Flights (O-Flights)

So you want to go flying? GREAT! This is the place to sign up for your Cadet Orientation Flights.

The goal of the cadet orientation flight program is to introduce youth to flying. The Cadet Orientation Flight Program is designed to introduce our youth to general aviation through hands-on orientation flights in single engine aircraft and gliders. The program is limited to current CAP cadets under 18 years of age. Cadets are eligible for five flights in a powered aircraft (usually a single-engine Cessna), five flights in a glider aircraft, and an unlimited number of backseat flights when conditions allow. The program is voluntary and primarily motivational and it should stimulate an interest in general aviation and aerospace activities. At no time will cadets sustain any costs associated with this program.

Glider O-Flight Information

Glider O-Flights must be setup as a squadron activity. We need to have 6-10 cadets qualified and available to Glider O-Flights. Below is information on requirements, location, information on the location, and additional information for O-Flights.

Wing Runners Course *** REQUIRED ***

An important part of the Glider Orientation Flight Program is to learn how to handle gliders on the ground. We have chosen the Wing Runners Course offered by the Soaring Safety Foundation to provide this learning experience. The Wing Runners Course can be via the link below. As part of the First Flight in the Orientation Flight Syllabus, all Cadets, before coming out for their first Glider Orientation Flight, are required to read this short, interactive and fun online course. We believe that cadets interested in aviation and desire to proceed beyond their first glider flight will accept the responsibility that this course is mandatory for all further glider flights.

All Senior Member escorts are encouraged to read this as well, as part of understanding the activity and therefore how to properly manage Cadets at the Gliderport. This course should take about 23-45 minutes to read.
